The watchmen of Ebeltoft

The watchmen date back to the early days of Danish market towns.Their job was to maintain peace and order, to light and put out the street lamps and to raise alarm in case of fire. They patrolled the streets every hour and called out the hours. In keeping with tradition, you can see and hear the watchmen every night in the streets of the town from the 27th of June to the 15th of August. The watchmen callout the hours at 8 PM and 9 PM at the old town hall and walk through the streets of town on different routes. They end their watch and sing the last song  at 10 PM at the old town hall.
